Description of Study

The objective of this project is to assess the body composition, dietary intake,  energy expenditure,  nutrition knowledge, and energy availability in male and female high school athletes to assist athletes, parents, and coaches in understanding the various physiological demands that high school athletes endure.

Study Overview

  1. Participants Contact EPNL
  2. Sign Consent and Assent
  3. Visit 1 (Day 0)
    • Health/Medical History
    • Equip you with chest-based activity/HR monitor
    • Dietary Questionnaire
    • Provide activity/dietary logs
    • Explain visit 2 tests
  4. Between Visits (Day 0-7)
    • Diet Tracking (5 paper logs / 2 online)
    • Activity Tracking (5 paper logs)
    • Wear chest-based activity/HR monitor for 5 days
  5. Visit 2 (Day 7)
    • 4C Body Composition (DEXA + BIS + BIA)
    • Resting Metabolic Rate
    • Isometric Mid-Thigh Pull
    • Countermovement Jump
    • Treadmill VO2max
